Meaning - ruddy, that is, a human being

Adam is a town north of Jericho and referenced as being near Zarethan (Josh. 3:16), on the west bank of the Jordan. At this city the flow of the water was arrested and rose up "upon an heap" at the time of the Israelites' passing over (Josh. 3:16).

Adam is associated with Tell ed-Damiyeh. It turns out that the Jordan has dammed up on numerous occasions which is referenced outside the Bible. The last reported time this occurred was in 1927, in which case the Jordan was stopped for two and a half hours.
