Meaning - house of the sun

A city in Judah about 24 km west of Jerusalem. After the conquest, it was set aside as a levitical city and is where the captured ark came when the Philistines released it (1 Sam 6). It was also the scene of the great victory of Joash of Israel over Amaziah of Judah (2Kings 14:1-13; 2 Chron 25:21-23). It was destroyed by Nebuchadrezzar in the 6th century BC. It is associated with Tell er-Rumeileh.
