Engedi

Engedi
Meaning - spring of the kid
Engedi is an important oasis and fresh water spring located
on the western shore of the Dead Sea in a severely-gorged mountain range
that is six hundred feet above the Dead Sea. There are a number of caves
in the area that can provide shelter. It was allotted to Judah at the conquest
(Josh. 15:62). It was famous for aromatic plants (Song of Solomon 1: 14).
It is also one of the places in the wilderness that David fled to in his
escape from Saul. (Josh. 15:62; 1 Sam. 23:29). It was here that David spared
Saul's life. In Gen 14:7 it is called Hazezon-tamar, a city of the Amorites.
